March 19, 2024Australia plans to repatriate its E-7A Wedgetail surveillance aircraft, which was used to ensure security during the delivery of military and humanitarian cargo to Ukraine.
This was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.
According to the media, the Royal Australian Air Force’s E-7A Wedgetail aircraft, which has been monitoring threats since its deployment in Germany in October, will soon conclude its current mission. A representative of the Australian Ministry of Defence noted that Wedgetail had helped ensure security for international deliveries to Ukraine by providing early warning of potential actions or threats from Russia beyond Ukraine, targeting humanitarian and military aid.
The Wedgetail, built on the Boeing 737-700 platform, is equipped with advanced radar and capable of simultaneously detecting airborne and maritime objects.
It was sent to Germany to assist Ukraine in response to a request from the United States. It is assumed that Washington did not request an extension of the deployment beyond April.
Regarding the possibility of extending the deployment in Australia, officials state that “any future requests for support” from international partners will be considered in the standard manner.
