March 19, 2024The suspected former military commissioner of the city of Sambir (Lviv region) has declared 6.4 million hryvnias (about 150.8 thousand euros), six apartments, and a new Lexus.
In the declaration for 2023, Serhiy Babych reported 1.8 million hryvnias (about 42.4 thousand euros) in salary from the territorial recruitment center and another 4.6 million hryvnias (about 108.4 thousand euros) in other income, with his family reportedly acquiring a lot of property in recent years, as reported by local media.
Although Babych himself only retained ownership of two land plots. He transferred two residential houses and a land plot in the Lviv region to his student daughter.
Meanwhile, his spouse, who works at the Sambir hospital and earns no more than 100 thousand hryvnias (2356 euros) per year, acquired five apartments in Lviv and one in Kyiv in 2023. She declared an income of 1.8 million hryvnias (about 42.4 thousand euros) from property alienation.
Additionally, Babych purchased a Lexus RX 350 (2021) for one million hryvnias, which is at least half the market price. He also declared 1.7 million hryvnias (over 40 thousand euros) in cash savings.
In September 2023, when the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) accused him of acquiring assets unjustifiably worth more than 4.4 million hryvnias (about 103.7 thousand euros), the military stated that he purchased the property using family savings from the previous period, family members’ salaries, and a gift from his mother amounting to 42 thousand dollars.
It’s worth noting that two military enlistment office employees, under Babych’s supervision, were arrested for beating, torture, and illegal detention of men. Subsequently, checks were initiated at the territorial recruitment center.
