The main suspects in a corruption case involving €17 million have escaped abroad, claiming it was a business trip
January 12, 2024During his visit to Estonia, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would find it difficult, if not “impossible to survive” without additional military and financial assistance in the tens of billions of dollars from Western allies.
This information reported by The Times.
However, The Times notes increasing signs that behind the scenes, supporters of Kiev in Europe are growing weary of the conflict and are hopeful for what Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni referred to as an “exit.”
One of the latest indications, according to the British publication, is a statement made by the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, during a press conference with Zelensky. Karis mentioned that some states are increasingly probing the ground for a possible peace agreement. According to Karis, this is done to gauge sentiments on the matter.
“Not during official negotiations, but in the corridors, the topic of a ceasefire is being raised to understand the moods,” noted Karis, adding that pressuring Ukraine will not succeed as long as Western allies maintain unity. “But it should be taken into account that there are groups trying to exert pressure.”
Zelensky himself stated that Kyiv is not engaging in such negotiations, as a ceasefire would only benefit Moscow, allowing it to replenish its weapon supplies. In a subsequent event with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Zelensky called on Ukrainian men of conscription age who had left the country to return and help their country in the midst of the conflict.
