August 1, 2024In July, Europe purchased a record volume of Russian pipeline gas for this year. The average daily supply in July was 5.7% higher compared to the previous year and 12% higher compared to June.
The increase is attributed to the completion of repairs on the TurkStream pipeline, which runs from Russia to Turkey, and the seasonal demand ahead of winter.
Gas transit through Ukraine also increased to 91.5 million cubic meters, which is 5.66% more than the previous year and 11.86% higher than in June.
This year, Russian gas exports to Europe reached approximately 18.3 billion cubic meters. In comparison, in 2018-2019, when annual supplies to Europe peaked, they ranged from 175 to 180 billion cubic meters.
In May, for the first time in two years, gas imports from Russia to Europe exceeded those from the U.S. The share of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. was 14%, the lowest since August 2022.
According to media reports, in April, Russia supplied 46% of its LNG exports to Europe. In total, 1.31 million tons of Russian LNG were shipped to European ports in April.
