February 13, 2025The foreign ministers of several European countries have issued a statement following the conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
The statement was signed by the foreign ministers of Ukraine, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the European Union.
They declared their readiness to support Ukraine “until a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace is achieved—a peace that guarantees the interests of Ukraine and its European allies.”
“We look forward to discussing the way forward together with our American allies. Our common goal should be to ensure a position of strength for Ukraine. Ukraine and Europe must be involved in any negotiations.”
The statement also emphasizes that “Ukraine must be provided with strong security guarantees.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed his support for the initiation of negotiations between Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Putin regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
He made this statement in response to journalists’ questions in Brussels.
Rutte said that the conversation between Trump and Putin “creates the impression” of the beginning of peace negotiations on Ukraine. He added that he “fully supports” peace talks.
