The new mobilization bill will not allow soldiers to demobilize after 36 months of service
January 16, 2024A quote from Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed in a similar manner during his visit to Estonia or possibly conveyed informally to other European politicians, has surfaced in the European Parliament. The Ukrainian President aims to bring back 800,000 men who fled Ukraine due to mobilization.
“Zelensky stated that they need people, but in Europe, there are about 800,000 individuals who violated Ukrainian law and fled the country like cowards. We must help Ukraine bring back these men,” said a Member of the European Parliament from Estonia Jaak Madison.
Ukraine’s human resources are increasingly depleting and men within the country are showing more resistance to forced mobilization. However, many European officials have previously asserted that such deportation would violate human rights and they are unwilling to take such a step. The only exception has been Estonia, where Zelensky’s request is being seriously discussed, although no decision has been made there either.
