September 10, 2023The Pryluky City District Court in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine, sentenced an elderly woman to five years in prison for giving three “likes” on the social media platform “Odnoklassniki.”
The court’s decision has been published in the Unified State Register.
It is claimed that she had “liked” posts that were automatically displayed on her page through her friends’ feed. The woman had “approved” three publications, the content of which is not disclosed in the verdict. It is known only that these were posts from groups and Russian media where, according to an examination, there was glorification of the so-called “DNR” (Donetsk People’s Republic).
During the trial, the woman fully admitted her guilt and asked not to be punished severely. She explained that she had acted under the influence of political shows and didn’t immediately realize that it was a crime.
The accused had no prior criminal record and is an elderly individual, although the decision does not specify her exact age. Nevertheless, the court sentenced her to five years in prison without confiscation of property.
It is worth noting that the social network “Odnoklassniki” was deemed pro-Russian and was banned in Ukraine during the presidency of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
