Former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder praises Scholz for his “peaceful” stance and reluctance to provide Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

“I think Olaf Scholz is doing what I expect from the Chancellor of Germany at the moment. If someone in the position of Chancellor of Germany stands for peace, if someone is called the ‘Chancellor of Peace,’ is that a negative thing?” Schröder says.
He also supported the idea of Rolf Mützenich, the leader of the SPD parliamentary faction, regarding the need for a “freeze on war,” for which he “faced sharp criticism,” including from members of the traffic light coalition.
Welt reminds that Schröder is “discredited due to his proximity to Vladimir Putin”: he has been friends with Putin since his chancellorship from 1998 to 2005 and continues to work for Russian energy companies. And although he called Russia’s attack on Ukraine a mistake, he still supports friendship with Putin.
