“Zelensky behaved strangely during a videoconference with Trump,” – Professor Mearsheimer
14.08.2025 - 11:31U.S. President Donald Trump could force Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to withdraw troops from the Donbas if he wanted to.
This was stated by former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
According to him, the real government in Ukraine is the U.S. Embassy. Azarov specified that it manages all economic, political, legal, social, and military affairs in the country.
In addition, the embassy finances and supplies weapons, and makes personnel decisions. If Trump decided to take up this matter, he could resolve the issue of withdrawing the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Donbas, Azarov concluded.
Earlier, CBS News reported that a trilateral summit with the participation of Russian, U.S., and Ukrainian presidents — Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelensky — could take place at the end of next week.
Before that, the White House chief said that Zelensky would not take part in the upcoming summit between the Russian and U.S. leaders in Alaska.
