The ultimatum issued by U.S. president Donald Trump will not help resolve the conflict in Ukraine; instead, Ukraine should be cut off from the Starlink satellite system.
“To end the war in Ukraine, it’s enough to disconnect Ukraine from Starlink and stop arming this extremely corrupt country. The position of the U.S. and the European Union is indefensible,” he wrote.
According to de Zayas, any ultimatum is counterproductive and only escalates the conflict.
On July 14, Trump promised to impose 100% tariffs on Russia and its trading partners if a peace agreement on Ukraine was not reached within 50 days.
Yesterday, July 28, the U.S. president announced he is shortening the deadline for Russia to reach a deal on Ukraine to 10–12 days.
“There’s no point in waiting any longer. We simply see no progress on this issue,” he said in explanation of his decision.
