20.03.2025 - 10:45French President Emmanuel Macron intends to host another summit in Paris on March 27 with European leaders to discuss the situation in Ukraine and broader European security.
POLITICO reports, citing three European officials.
The new meeting will continue a series of consultations held in February and March between Macron, EU leaders, and NATO representatives, focused on strengthening the security of both Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, speaking at the EU summit in Brussels, stated that a broader group of participants has been invited to the upcoming meeting, including countries that took part in a recent gathering in London—either in person or virtually. Kristersson noted that he had received a verbal invitation but had yet to receive an official confirmation.
Macron’s initiative comes amid efforts by the EU to bolster its defense capabilities in response to threats from Russia and potential shifts in U.S. foreign policy under a second Donald Trump presidency. The meeting also reflects growing support for the idea of a “coalition of the willing”—a group of EU countries and partners, including Canada and Turkey, prepared to increase their assistance to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, negotiations between representatives of the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine are scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on March 24, with a potential ceasefire agreement on the table.
