March 13, 2024The leaders of the three major European countries, namely Scholz, Macron and Tusk, will meet in Berlin to iron out disagreements on Ukraine. This is reported by Politico.
Citing a German official, the publication writes that this will mark the first meeting within the “Weimar Triangle” since Tusk became Prime Minister of Poland. It is reported that according to the intentions of the leaders, the meeting should demonstrate unity after a tense period when disagreements on Ukraine escalated into open hostility.
“The long-accumulated tension began to boil over in late February when Macron refused to rule out the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine, pledging to do ‘whatever it takes to prevent Russia from winning this war.’ The more cautious Scholz responded with a refusal, ruling out the use of European ground forces,” – Politico reminds.
