Ukraine demands compensation from Poland for spilled grain
February 28, 2024In addition to the widespread criticism and rejection from European leaders, other politicians within France have also condemned Macron. The French president’s statements about the intention to send troops to Ukraine have only caused bewilderment; as nobody wants to risk a global war, CNN reports.
Marine Le Pen of the right-wing National Front criticized the president’s statements, accusing him of attempting to play “the role of a military leader” and drag France into war. The criticism directed at Macron even led to a confrontation between Le Pen and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal — the latter accused Le Pen of having ties to Russia and Putin. Another opposition figure, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of the parliamentary party “Unsubmissive France,” also attacked Macron, calling his ideas “madness.”
Recall that Macron convened around 20 NATO leaders and proposed sending troops to Ukraine. The idea was discussed extensively, but after the meeting, all leaders except Macron spoke out against it. The meeting was organized outside the framework of NATO, and the idea failed to garner support from the US, Britain, Poland and other countries.
