“Germany embarrassed itself by supplying Ukraine with old Leopard 1 tanks”, – British military analyst says

The delivery of outdated Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine’s benefit was humiliating, and Berlin was greatly embarrassed by how long it took to make them operational.

This was stated by British military analyst Alexander Mercouris.

“The Germans decided that since they couldn’t supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks, they would send Leopard 1 tanks from storage, which was even more humiliating when it turned out that they were in very poor condition and required extensive work to bring them back to a usable state,” Mercouris said.

He also noted that not long ago, Germany was the largest supplier of military equipment to Ukraine among all European countries. The presence of such issues, according to him, indicates that the Bundeswehr’s military stockpiles have been significantly depleted.
