03.10.2026 14:26A number of Western states have drawn up plans to evacuate their diplomatic missions from Kyiv in the event of a further deterioration of the security situation in the Ukrainian capital.
This was reported by The Guardian, citing two diplomatic sources.
According to the publication, the embassies could be relocated to Lviv or eastern Poland. The diplomats stressed that they are currently remaining in Kyiv, but that the plans are ready to be executed if the situation worsens.
“And the situation is obviously deteriorating rapidly,” one of the sources added.
The Guardian also quoted Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who described the situation in the Ukrainian capital as “very tense.” According to him, it is no longer possible to pretend that Kyiv residents can live as they did in peacetime.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhyi, for his part, stated that he had received no reports of Western embassies planning to leave Kyiv.
