17.07.2025 - 06:03Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán criticized the European Commission’s initiative to revise the European Union’s prospective budget to allocate €100 billion for Ukraine.
“A shocking leak of new information about the EU budget reveals a dangerous adventure: Ukraine will receive significant funding, while European farmers will lose out. This plan risks sidelining rural Europe and endangering families across the continent. Brussels must not abandon European farmers for the sake of funding Ukraine,” Orbán wrote on X.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has officially confirmed the plan. The EU is indeed considering allocating €100 billion to Ukraine as part of the next seven-year budget, covering the period from 2028 to 2034.
According to Bloomberg sources, this idea is driven by the fact that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “shows no signs of ending.”
The European Commission’s budget proposal is expected by the end of July. Funding for Kyiv will only become possible after all member states agree during budget negotiations.
Bloomberg notes that such a move “would shift the burden of supporting Ukraine onto Europe rather than the U.S.” — which is exactly what U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for.
