Without Aid to Ukraine: The US Senate approved a bill on government funding
November 16, 2023The media discovered the specifics of a conflict causing Hungary to halt the transfer of 500 million euros in military aid to Ukraine within the EU. The issue centers on Hungary’s OTP Bank, previously labeled by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NAPC) as a contributor to wartime efforts.
Despite Ukraine removing OTP Bank from this designation, Hungary persists in blocking the 500 million euros. In diplomatic circles, it’s said that Hungary finds the removal of OTP Bank insufficient. According to a source, OTP Bank’s removal from the list confirms an unjust inclusion. For instance, a reason cited was the belief that the bank operated in occupied Donetsk, but in reality, OTP has a branch in a similarly named Russian settlement, a mere misunderstanding.
Additionally, the list still includes OTP’s Russian branch and three managers from Hungarian banks (see screenshot), the source mentioned. The source indicates that as long as they remain on the list of wartime contributors, Hungary will continue to block the 500 million euros.
