Hungary has once again blocked the EU’s decision to provide Ukraine with 500 million euros in military aid

Hungary has once again blocked the EU decision to allocate 500 million euros in military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund.

This information comes from Brussels correspondent for “Radio Svoboda,” Rikard Jozwiak, in his report.

Previously, Ukraine had made concessions to Budapest by excluding the Hungarian OTP Bank from the list of international sponsors due to the activities of its subsidiaries in Russia. However, as Jozwiak points out, Hungary now seeks legal guarantees that this decision is permanent.

“As expected, there was no agreement on the eighth tranche (500 million euros) of military aid from the EU to Ukraine at today’s meeting of EU foreign ministers. OTP Bank has been removed from the blacklist for doing business in Russia, but Budapest requires legal assurances that this will be permanent,” the journalist stated.

The President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, confirmed the information that the EU foreign ministers were once again unable to agree on the allocation of funds to Ukraine. He made this announcement during a press conference.

“We have not yet reached an agreement on providing a new tranche of 500 million euros in military aid, but we will definitely do so in the future,” Borrell assured.
