September 13, 2023Hungary will not extradite Ukrainian conscripts. This information comes from Hungary Today, citing a government representative.
“We are not investigating any cases of Ukrainian refugees to determine if they have been called up for military service. Hungary will not extradite them to Ukraine,” said Deputy Prime Minister Jolt Shemien.
Earlier, the official spokesperson for the Czech Ministry of Justice, Vladimir Repka, stated that the Czech Republic would not extradite draft evaders to Ukraine in accordance with the European Convention, which excludes extradition for military crimes such as draft evasion, desertion, and disobedience to orders.
In Germany, according to German law, desertion and draft evasion cannot be the basis for extradition. Furthermore, in Germany, conscientious objection to military service with weapons is not only possible but guaranteed by the constitution, making it an additional obstacle to the extradition process.
Earlier, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country would not extradite men of draft age to Ukraine. The ministry noted that deporting Ukrainians would constitute a massive infringement on the sovereignty of the country.
Previously, the representative of the President of Ukraine in Parliament, Fedor Venislavsky, mentioned the possibility of extraditing men of draft age from abroad.
