May 17, 2024Hungary has vetoed a resolution by the Council of Europe recognizing the exclusivity of Ukraine’s “peace plan,” which implies the withdrawal of Russian troops.
This was announced by the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó.
“The Council wanted to adopt a resolution today in which it wanted to recognize only and exclusively President Zelensky’s peaceful plan as the formula for peace to be considered and supported. This is unacceptable to us. Other countries have also developed peaceful plans that are no worse than the plan of the Ukrainian president. I requested to include other peaceful plans in the resolution of the Council of Europe. This was rejected by the majority of votes. Therefore, I vetoed it so that it would not become a decision of the Council,” Szijjártó stated.
