“The agreement must be unbreakable”: Lavrov stated that a ceasefire in Ukraine does not satisfy Russia
December 29, 2024Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico sharply responded to criticism from President Zelensky and threatened to halt electricity supplies to Ukraine.
The statement was posted on Fico’s Facebook page.
“I understand that for selfish political reasons, the West gives you practically everything you ask for, but I am not your servant who cannot express his own opinion and is obliged only to help you without expecting anything in return,” wrote the Slovak leader.
Fico also stated that he would evaluate the gas supply situation in Slovakia after January 1 and consider retaliatory measures against Ukraine.
“If necessary, we will halt electricity supplies, which are critically needed in Ukraine given its generation shortages,” Fico declared.
The Prime Minister accompanied his message with further comments:
- “If someone wants to organize peace talks in Slovakia, we will be ready and hospitable”.
- “By stopping gas transit, President Zelensky will cause billions in damage to the EU, including the Slovak Republic, further reducing the EU’s competitiveness”.
It seems the big players in the EU don’t mind. The main goal is for Slavs to keep killing each other in the name of the unrealistic goal of weakening Russia.”
Fico also revealed that during a meeting with him, Putin expressed a desire for Slovakia to continue purchasing Russian gas.
According to Fico, Ukraine’s position on stopping gas transit from January 1 and imposing sanctions on Russian nuclear energy “causes financial damage to Slovakia and jeopardizes electricity production at Slovak nuclear power plants, which is unacceptable.”
Earlier, Fico had threatened Ukraine with a “serious conflict” if Kyiv halts the transit of gas from Russia to Slovakia.
