January 25, 2024In the Cherkasy region, a man has been sentenced to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment with property confiscation for stealing over 200 pigs from farmers, amounting to a total of 728,286 hryvnias (approximately 17,898 euros).
This information is stated in the verdict of the Kamenka District Court of the Cherkasy region.
According to the court, the man, from February to April 2016, engaged in receiving pigs from farmers, promising to pay them later, which he never did. In total, he stole more than 220 pigs worth 728,286 hryvnias.
During the trial, the suspect denied his guilt, claiming that he indeed received pigs from farmers and delivered them to his partner, who allegedly failed to settle the payment for the goods, leaving him in debt. The man added that he is trying to compensate the victims.
The victims reported in court that the suspect and his accomplice would take pigs at a favorable price. They would give a receipt promising to return the money in a few days but later disappeared. Additionally, some farmers mentioned that the suspect presented himself as a “deputy’s assistant” and provided his business cards.
The court also heard witnesses who had collaborated with the suspect. Some confirmed buying pigs from the “deputy’s assistant” but had settled their accounts. Workers testified that they were simply doing their job and were unaware of any fraudulent activities.
The court found the man guilty under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with property confiscation. Since the suspect was on probation, his final sentence is 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment with property confiscation.
