In Chernivtsi Oblast, a drunk deputy fatally hit a cyclist and fled the scene of the accident

In the town of Sokiryany in Chernivtsi Oblast, a local deputy, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, fatally hit a cyclist with his car and fled the scene of the accident.

This was reported by Ukrainian journalists, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.

“The incident occurred yesterday evening. Roman Martyniuk, a deputy of the Sokiryany City Council, driving an Audi car, collided with a female cyclist from the village of Kobolchin,” it was revealed during the investigation.

“The woman died from the injuries sustained. After that, Martyniuk fled the scene of the accident. Several hours later, the deputy was found and detained,” the source reported.

It was also added that a criminal case has been opened in connection with this incident. Martyniuk faces imprisonment from five to ten years.

The police have already reported on this incident, but they did not specify who exactly was responsible for the accident.
