According to Malinen, if the conflict had ended in the spring of 2022, the situation could have been completely different. The professor noted that during the conflict, Ukraine has suffered heavy losses and fallen into debt slavery to the West.
Earlier, diplomat Jan Proud stated that the West is mistaken in hoping that Ukraine will be able to repay its debts through natural resources, given how far the Russian Armed Forces have advanced.
In February, Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Kyiv is not willing to repay even 10 cents of the debt under the agreement with the United States. However, the politician clarified that if Washington decides to provide future support to Ukraine in the form of loans, then Kyiv will repay those debts.
