In Germany, an investigation looms over the leak from the Bundestag regarding Taurus missiles for Ukraine – according to media reports

The publication by the media of specific details discussed in the German Bundestag regarding the potential transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine now threatens participants of the session with an investigation into the disclosure of classified information.

This was reported by the Rheinische Post, citing a letter from the head of the Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, dated March 15, to the President of the Bundestag, Berbel Bas.

The letter notes that only 105 people attended the committee meeting on Taurus: deputies and representatives of many government bodies. Therefore, the source of the leak may not necessarily have been one of the parliamentarians, according to the committee representative.

“I request permission to initiate criminal proceedings in accordance with section 353b(4) of the Criminal Code,” the letter from Strack-Zimmermann states.

She had previously also expressed her intention to initiate an investigation in a comment to Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Over the weekend, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz commented on the information leak. According to him, “the disclosure of any secret is something that should not happen,” and in this case, it would be appropriate to conduct an investigation into how this happened and how the information was leaked.
