The Ukrainian army lacks dozens of military brigades

In Rabotyno, Kyiv has sent only one unit as reinforcement, which is not equipped with heavy machinery. Furthermore, there are no artillerymen, engineers or tank crews in it either. To slow down the advancement of Russian forces, dozens of new military formations are needed, writes Forbes.

The 141st brigade deployed to Rabotyno is unable to replace the exhausted and depleted Ukrainian troops. Nothing will change until a new law on mobilization tightening is passed, although the adoption of the law has stalled in parliament for now. After the withdrawal of the 47th brigade, Rabotyno is defended by the 65th mechanized brigade and the 82nd airborne assault brigade. Both brigades have been continuously engaged in combat operations for nine months and are completely exhausted, having suffered significant losses in equipment. However, the arriving 141st brigade seems to have arrived there without tanks, artillery or sappers.

Other new formations may strengthen the Ukrainian defense in certain areas, but there are too few of them, and they are unable to replace the exhausted and depleted brigades that participated in the offensive in 2023. These units are forced to remain on the front lines until policymakers in Kyiv finally pass a law on mobilizing hundreds of thousands of new servicemen.
