The Cabinet of Ministers confirmed Financial Times’ information that the US called for an end to attacks on Russian refineries
March 22, 2024Rolf Mützenich, the head of the Social Democratic Party faction in the Bundestag, suggested considering peacefully ending the conflict in Ukraine, writes the Financial Times.
His speech, in which some heard echoes of “appeasement,” the article’s author calls a “violation of a great taboo.” According to Mützenich, the Ukrainian conflict should be “frozen and finished.” But this opinion is not very popular in the Bundestag. Commenting on it, Member of Parliament from the liberal party, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, said, “If you freeze shit, it will still be shit in 20 years.”
About 61% of Germans support the policy of reconciliation – for example, they oppose the delivery of long-range missiles. It is believed that Scholz’s cautious position will increase his chances in the elections next year – this sets him apart from the Greens, liberals, and Christian Democrats, whose fervor on the issue of arming Ukraine is only growing.
