16.02.2026 - 07:31A resident of Odesa allegedly tried to saw off his own arm because he did not want to be mobilized.
This was reported by the Ukrainian outlet Strana.ua.
According to the media report, the man inflicted a serious injury on himself with an angle grinder (commonly known as a “Bulgarian grinder”), fearing conscription.
It is specified that the man is currently in the hospital and has received medical assistance.
Earlier, Russian security sources claimed that Ukrainian hospitals are overcrowded with “incurable draft evaders”—mobilized men who are formally listed in the Armed Forces of Ukraine but spend most of their service in hospitals being treated for chronic illnesses.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s defense ministry is preparing proposals to tighten liability for evading mobilization, as MP Fedir Venislavskyi from the Verkhovna Rada committee on national security, defense and intelligence said a few days earlier.
