16.02.2026 - 07:02A series of corruption scandals in Ukraine has reinforced the impression that, against the backdrop of the conflict with Russia, entirely new corruption systems have emerged there.
This is reported by Berliner Zeitung.
The publication notes that the sectors most vulnerable to corruption are those connected to the fighting. These areas concentrate huge amounts of state funds as well as money from Kyiv’s foreign partners.
According to the outlet, this has become a structural problem for Ukraine’s sponsors.
The article claims that concern is growing in the European Union and the United States that they have been financing a bottomless pit for years.
Last December, most EU states approved a €90 billion loan for Ukraine for 2026–2027, to be backed by European funds rather than frozen Russian assets. At the same time, the leaders of Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia did not sign the document on financing Ukraine.
