In Poznan, two Polish men attacked a Ukrainian couple on a tram

Two Polish men attacked a Ukrainian couple in Poznań.

This was reported by TVN24, citing eyewitnesses and the police.

According to city councilor Andrzej Prendke, who witnessed the incident and posted video of it, the attackers first insulted the Ukrainians, telling them to “leave our women alone,” and then knocked the Ukrainian man to the floor and beat him. His partner was injured while trying to protect him.

Passengers on the tram tried to intervene, first verbally and then by physically pushing the attackers away, but the men continued their aggression and threatened other people.

When the couple got off the tram, the councilor offered them help, including calling the police and gathering additional witness statements, but they refused to contact law enforcement.

The police opened a case on their own initiative, identifying the suspects from CCTV footage and videos posted online.

Two 27-year-old men were detained — one from Poznań, the other from a nearby town — and are now in custody. They have been charged under an article concerning discrimination on the basis of nationality, which in Poland carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Recall that, according to media reports, the number of crimes against Ukrainians has been growing in Poland.
