After Kyiv halted gas transit, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened to reduce aid to Ukrainian refugees
January 3, 2025At the Sumy City Territorial Recruitment Center, a 40-year-old local resident, Yevhen Krivodub, was beaten and later died in the hospital from his injuries.
This was reported by SumyToday, citing Krivodub’s aunt, Natalia Skachedub.
Natalia stated that on December 29, around 3:00 PM, Yevhen called his partner from an unfamiliar number, informing her that he had been taken to the recruitment center, had passed a military medical commission, and was to be sent to war. After that call, there was no further contact with him.
The next day, when relatives called the number he used, they were told that Yevhen had drunk half a liter of vodka, felt unwell, and was taken to the hospital.
His wife began searching for Yevhen at medical facilities and eventually found him at the regional hospital. There, she was informed that Krivodub had been admitted with a traumatic brain injury. Following surgery, he was in a coma.
On December 31, at around 7:30 AM, the family received a call from the hospital informing them of Yevhen’s death.
According to media reports, Krivodub’s hands and face were uninjured, but he had a large hematoma on the back of his head.
The recruitment center confirmed that Krivodub had sustained a traumatic brain injury but claimed it was caused by an altercation with a man who was not an employee of the center.
However, police reported that a fatal blow was inflicted on Krivodub at the recruitment center by a serviceman. According to the regional police, a “sudden conflict” arose between Krivodub and the serviceman.
“During the heated argument, the serviceman lost his temper and inflicted physical injuries on the man. He was hospitalized but later died from his injuries,” the police stated in a Facebook post.
Incidents of violence at recruitment centers in Ukraine are not uncommon. In October, a wounded war veteran was humiliated and beaten at the Uzhhorod Regional Recruitment Center when he visited to inquire about employment opportunities.
In late December, a man was reportedly killed at the Odessa Recruitment Center while trying to protect his son from conscription officers. The man was shot multiple times.
