In the UN, Ukraine and Russia have been urged to take ‘immediate steps towards de-escalation’

Volker Türk, the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, urged both Ukraine and Russia to safeguard civilians and respect international laws.

‘The concerning increase in combat actions has resulted in the deaths of numerous civilians in Ukraine and Russia. International humanitarian laws explicitly forbid indiscriminate attacks and targeting of civilian areas,’ stated the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on social media platform X.

The recent series of missile strikes and drone attacks on Ukrainian and Russian cities prompted a response from the UN. Dozens of people, including civilians, have been killed on both sides. Officials claim that these airstrikes were the most powerful since the beginning of the war.
