14.06.2024 17:16In the U.S. Congress, a proposal has been made to strip the Ukrainian publication Texty.org.ua of American funding, and businessman Elon Musk has called for this media outlet to be recognized as a terrorist organization and sanctioned.
The proposal by lawmakers was reported by Republican Representative Jim Banks.
The controversy around the publication arose after it published a list of American organizations and individuals that, according to the editors, oppose support for Ukraine and are “linked to Russian propaganda.”
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is close to Donald Trump, called the publication a “list of enemies” and claimed that it was backed by Volodymyr Zelensky.
There have also been reports that Texty.org.ua receives American grants. The Appropriations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution calling for an end to American financial support for this Ukrainian publication, Banks reported.

Under Banks’ post, Elon Musk called for the publication to be “added to the list of terrorist organizations under sanctions.”
Congressmen J.D. Vance and Matt Gaetz have called on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to provide information about Texty.org.ua by June 28.
Texty.org.ua stated that it views the ongoing events as pressure on freedom of speech and that it has received “threats of physical violence.”
“We regard this campaign as an attack on freedom of speech and a manifestation of chauvinism towards Ukrainian citizens. Our critics believe that we have no right to investigate the false information streams they produce about our country and us because they are U.S. citizens and we are not,” the publication stated.
Recently, there has been a wave of critical publications and open cases against individuals in Ukraine traditionally considered recipients of Western grants, such as anti-corruption activist Vitaliy Shabunin.
Additionally, the situation around Ukraine’s two main anti-corruption structures—the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO)—has sharply deteriorated.
