“There will be no hot water in Kyiv until the end of the heating season”, – a journalist says
27.01.2026 11:21If the sewage system freezes in Troieshchyna—a district of the capital that has been without electricity, water, and heat after strikes on a CHP plant—then street toilets will be dug there.
This was said in an interview with LB.ua by Maksym Bakhmatov, head of the Desnianskyi District State Administration.
“The mayor says to leave the city, and Bakhmatov says: we’ll dig pits. Back in the summer we were already looking at that prospect. You know what the situation is with backup power for the booster pumping groups of the water supply system and for Bortnychi. What can you do on short notice when the situation is critical? You dig a pit, cover it, make a hole on top—that’s it. We’ll make toilets like in a village,” Bakhmatov said.

When a journalist asked whether heating would be turned back on in Troieshchyna, Bakhmatov replied that the situation is critical and no one knows what to do.
“Right now CHP Plant No. 6 definitely isn’t supplying heat carrier. They’re trying to supply the Lisovyi (Forest) area through other heat sources. For Troieshchyna there is no alternative to reconnect to. They aren’t telling us exactly what happened, but it’s known that it occurred after the latest shelling—on the night of Saturday,” Bakhmatov answered.
Tent camps have now been set up in Troieshchyna.
Klitschko also urged Kyiv residents to spend the night in warming centers or leave the metropolis. He suggested that employers introduce flexible schedules and, where possible, switch employees to remote work.
