The woman herself had not lived in her apartment for a long time, as she had emigrated to Russia, where her daughter lives. The pensioner was tried in absentia and sentenced to four years in prison following an investigation by the Vinnytsia branch of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Investigators claim that Alla Stadnytska, an 80-year-old physics teacher from Vinnytsia, used the Russian social network “Odnoklassniki” (which is blocked in Ukraine but accessible through VPN services) to call on Putin to “save Bandera’s Ukraine” and to “like” similar posts.
It is worth noting that prosecuting someone for their views violates human rights and the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantees freedom of speech. However, the Ukrainian authorities are inclined towards further radicalization of society and are making such decisions to appease aggressive supporters of the war. Earlier in Ukraine, the SBU began persecuting a female blogger for saying that there is currently a “hybrid war” underway. People are also receiving real prison sentences for keeping the USSR flag at home or for liking “ideologically incorrect” opinions on social media.
