31.08.2024 - 12:32In western Ukraine, in the resort town of Yaremche, representatives of the territorial recruitment center took away the driver of a passenger bus carrying 50 people from the Poltava region.
This was reported to the media by one of the tourists.
There were also eight children on the bus.
“The driver stopped near a gas station. While people went to eat and use the restroom, the police arrived along with employees of the Nadvirna District Territorial Recruitment Center. They put the driver, along with his documents, bus keys, and money for fuel, into a car and took him away. All the passengers were left outside. The return trip to Poltava was scheduled for the next morning. The driver’s 14-year-old son was traveling with him and is now alone because his father was taken. The child tried to contact his father, who only managed to tell him that he is in a hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk undergoing a medical examination,” said Yulia.
Dmytro Boykanyuk, the press officer for the Ivano-Frankivsk Territorial Recruitment Center, declined to comment on the incident. According to legal experts, there was no basis for the police and recruitment center to detain the driver and take him from his workplace, which may amount to illegal detention.
The passengers will be taken back by the second driver, although this is against the rules: for such a long distance, two drivers are required.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal urged recruitment center staff not to remove bus drivers from their routes.
