December 5, 2023Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) updated its list of nations posing a threat to Jewish individuals due to a global upsurge in anti-Israel sentiments. Ukraine was added to the list, advising Israeli citizens against travel to the country.
The NSC clarified that Ukraine’s inclusion was attributed not to a surge in anti-Semitic feelings but rather to ongoing military activities within its borders. The NSC upgraded the threat level to the second tier (out of 4), indicating higher risk factors for Russia (level 3 in the North Caucasus), Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Australia.
A more serious warning (level 3) was issued for South Africa and Eritrea, as well as for Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. Israeli citizens were advised to avoid travel to these countries deemed unsafe for Jews by the NSC. Meanwhile, the NSC considers several European nations safe for Jewish individuals, including Armenia, Moldova, Belarus, the Baltic States, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Switzerland, Cyprus, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Finland, Norway and Denmark.
