“It could be good, it could be bad”: Trump shared his expectations ahead of the meeting with Putin in Alaska

U.S. President Donald Trump made several statements about his upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine, saying that the Alaska meeting with Putin will be more of a preliminary one.

The White House leader said this during a conversation with reporters.

Trump stated that he would ask Putin to end the war in Ukraine and added that he expects a constructive meeting with the Russian leader.

“Russia has occupied some important territories, we will try to get some of those territories back,” the U.S. president said.

The next meeting, he said, will be “between Zelensky and Putin, or Zelensky, Putin, and me.”

“I can get along with Zelensky, but, you know, I don’t agree with what he’s done. I disagree very strongly. This is a war that should never have happened,” Trump said.

“Zelensky got approval to start the war and kill everyone, but he needs approval to exchange land. There will be some land swap,” he added.

At the same time, Trump avoided giving a direct answer on whether Zelensky would attend his meeting with Putin.

“I said Zelensky could go, but he already has many meetings,” the U.S. president commented.

Trump also corrected a slip of the tongue regarding a “trip to Russia,” clarifying that it is Putin “coming to us, not us to him.” Earlier, he had said, “I’m going to Russia on Friday.”

“I will see Putin, I’m going to Russia on Friday,” Trump initially said by mistake.

The U.S. president expressed uncertainty about the outcome of the Alaska talks.

“I think my meeting with Putin will be good, but it could also be bad,” he stated.
