22.07.2025 - 09:28The longer the war in Ukraine continues, the more U.S. President Donald Trump will be held responsible for its outcome.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
The publication notes that Republican lobbyists advocating for aid to Ukraine fear that, for Trump, the situation could resemble an “Afghanistan effect,” referring to the U.S. withdrawal that severely damaged the reputation of his predecessor, President Joe Biden.
“A deeper entanglement in the conflict would anger Trump’s supporters in the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement. But if he allows Russia to achieve sustained gains while withholding additional aid, he could appear weak and face accusations of not doing enough to stop Vladimir Putin,” the agency writes.
However, Trump’s supporters within the MAGA movement argue the opposite — that if Trump increases military supplies to Kyiv, it would lead to his political downfall.
“If President Trump sells them offensive weapons that could strike deep inside Russia, I don’t see how it wouldn’t turn into Trump’s war. The media, the Ukrainians, the Russians, and the neocons — all would say this is Trump’s war,” said former Trump advisor Steve Bannon.
