03.09.2026 02:19Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky has announced the introduction of a strict austerity regime for budget funds not earmarked for defense needs.
This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
The statement was made at a session of parliament. According to Koretsky, the work carried out has already allowed the government to identify reserves for spending cuts.
“The government is introducing a strict austerity regime for budget funds not earmarked for defense needs. As a result, we have already found 70 billion in savings, which will be directed in full toward defense needs,” Koretsky said.
The head of government also assured that the austerity regime would not affect the state’s social obligations.
“At the same time, we must fulfill all necessary social obligations. Therefore, there will be no problems with pensions and salaries,” he noted.
Koretsky stated that the principle of maximum savings must also underpin the preparation of the state budget for 2027. He called on deputies to take an active part in the process of its formation.
It was previously reported that the leadership of the Ministry of Finance and experts from the International Monetary Fund had begun discussions on economic development prospects and the draft state budget for 2027. In addition, the government plans to revise the state budget for 2026 due to additional funding needs for the Defense Forces.
