Lavrov warned that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would lead to a serious escalation between Russia and the United States

If the Tomahawk missiles are supplied to Ukraine, it will cause “a very serious escalation” between Russia and the United States,

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Kommersant.

“In this series of statements about the possible supply of Tomahawks, President Trump, among his other comments, mentioned that he does not want escalation — acknowledging that it would be an escalation, and a very serious one. Ukraine will no longer have anything to do with it. This would simply cause colossal damage to the prospects of normalizing relations between Russia and the United States, and to getting out of the complete deadlock into which these relations were driven by the Biden administration,” the minister said.

Lavrov also commented on a recent Financial Times publication claiming that the United States has been providing Ukraine with intelligence since the summer for strikes on Russian energy facilities.

“They write a lot, and far from all such ‘alarm bells’ are confirmed. But of course, we took note of it. I instructed my staff to ask the Americans to comment on these Financial Times reports,” Lavrov said, clarifying that no response had yet been received “because little time has passed.”

Earlier, it was reported that Trump is aware that Zelensky will ask for Tomahawk missiles during his visit to Washington.
