French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Ukraine to engage in “realistic discussions on territorial issues” to bring an end to the war.

“There will be no quick and easy solution in Ukraine. The new American president knows that the U.S. has no chance of winning anything if Ukraine loses, and Ukraine’s capitulation cannot be good for Europeans or Americans,” Macron stated during a speech to French ambassadors.

In his view, the U.S. “must help us change the nature of the situation and convince Russia to come to the negotiating table,” while Europeans will need to “provide security guarantees for Ukraine,” which he described as “their primary responsibility.”
