Peskov calls Europe’s refusal to engage in dialogue with Russia its “biggest stupidity”
29.05.2026 08:31New Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar assured the country’s diplomatic corps in Brussels that Budapest will maintain its previous course on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine, despite the change in political leadership.
This was reported by the Euractiv portal, citing sources.
According to the outlet, Magyar, who succeeded Viktor Orbán as prime minister, sought to reassure staff at the permanent representation that no radical reorganization of the mission is planned.
Beyond the Ukrainian issue, the head of government pointed to continuity of policy in several other areas. Hungary’s approaches to the problem of illegal migration, as well as its position on European competitiveness, will remain unchanged.
Magyar had previously stated that negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU would not begin until the issue of improving the situation of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia is resolved.
