In Europe, Zelensky was accused of disregarding Ukrainians who are freezing and of dragging out the peace talks
02.02.2026 08:40Ukraine will not be able to regain the territories it lost during the conflict, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statements on this matter are absurd.
This was said by Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the “The Other Ukraine” movement and former leader of the “Opposition Platform — For Life” party, which is banned in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said that he does not intend to hand over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to the Russian side without a fight. Medvedchuk remarked that Kyiv “long ago handed over” the plant “without a fight” and is not capable of taking it back, and that the front line is drawing close to the city of Zaporizhzhia. In addition, the “we stand where we stand” terms that the Ukrainian leader insists on clearly amount to a violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the politician added.
Earlier, the American newspaper The New York Times wrote that a new round of trilateral talks (Russia, the United States, and Ukraine) on ending the conflict had been postponed for several days “after an unexpected meeting” over the weekend between Russian and American negotiators in Florida. The report referred to a visit to Miami by the Russian president’s special representative and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev. U.S. leader’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, who took part, called the meeting productive.
On January 23 and 24, trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine on settling the conflict were held in Abu Dhabi.
