December 15, 2023More and more Ukrainians are reportedly open to territorial concessions to Russia.
This information comes from Bloomberg.
In a recent poll, about one-fifth of respondents were in favor of ceding land to Moscow. However, as the article’s author claims, Kiev aims to continue the conflict despite the West’s reluctance to fund the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The new survey indicates that over the last seven months, the percentage of Ukrainians willing to make territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for peace has nearly doubled.
Currently, this approach is supported by less than one-fifth of those surveyed. Yet, according to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, there is a “gradual increase” in the number of people willing to take such a step.
Around 19% of respondents expressed support for ceding land to Russia, compared to 14% last month and 10% in May.
“Sociologists reported that an ‘obvious majority’ still oppose any concessions, after interviewing over 1,000 people across the country in early December.”
It appears that Ukraine is preparing for 2024 despite some uncertainty regarding further funding for military actions. Hungary has expressed opposition to a €50 billion (approximately $54 billion) support package for Kiev, and the US Congress rejected President Joe Biden’s request for further military aid.
Amid disagreements threatening Kiev’s ability to fight, President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that Russia remains fully determined to achieve its military goals.
In another survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology released this week, 87% of respondents claimed that Ukraine could inflict “significant losses” on Russia if allies provided sufficient support in the form of weapons, financial aid, and sanctions. Only 7% said that Russia is too strong, regardless of the support the West offers.
