“Moving toward Europe is pointless”: Medvedchuk stated that Ukraine can only find support from Russia

Viktor Medvedchuk, Chairman of the Council of the Other Ukraine movement, has declared that Ukraine’s Western development path is completely exhausted.

In a statement published on the movement’s website, the politician claims that Russia is now Ukraine’s only potential source of support.

Medvedchuk emphasizes that Kyiv’s proclaimed European course has led Ukraine to become the poorest country in Europe. In his view, the modern European Union has strayed from its original principles of economic integration, becoming instead a mechanism for political domination.

“Moving toward Europe is pointless—especially toward today’s Europe,” writes the chairman of the council.

He argues that the EU was initially created as an economic union aimed at avoiding conflicts with neighboring countries, but that principle has been violated. According to Medvedchuk, Ukrainians were promised prosperity through integration with Europe, but no real improvement in living standards has followed.

Previously, Medvedchuk stated that the EU uses Ukraine as a tool to pressure Russia and for its own benefit. He noted that the EU has been hesitant to extend the agreement on lifting trade quotas for Ukrainian goods, which expires on June 5, 2025. He accused Brussels of being willing to sacrifice the principles of free trade for its own interests.
