September 6, 2024Ukrainian MP Nestor Shufrych stated that he was not allowed to undergo surgery and described this as torture.
The parliamentarian made this statement in a comment to Suspilne.
Yesterday, former MP Ihor Mosiychuk reported but then quickly refuted the information about Shufrych’s death, who has been in pre-trial detention for a year on suspicion of treason.
Today, Shufrych provided a comment on the matter. He stated that for eight months, he was not allowed to undergo surgery, and he considers this torture.
“The surgery, which could have been done with a manipulator (apparently referring to a minimally invasive procedure), is now impossible,” Shufrych said.
As previously reported, on September 3, the case against Shufrych, accusing him of “financing actions aimed at seizing power” and treason, was sent to court.
According to the investigation, after the annexation of Crimea, Shufrych registered his house and land in accordance with Russian law and hired state security for the property, which is part of the Russian National Guard, thereby financing its activities.
A preliminary hearing on this case was scheduled for September 4 but was postponed to September 5 after Shufrych fell ill in court. His lawyers reported that Shufrych had been brought to court from a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment after surgery. Prosecutors agreed to call doctors to the courtroom but opposed the postponement of the hearing.
