NATO Secretary General called negotiations with Ukraine unserious

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul are allegedly not serious, and NATO is betting on continued military assistance to Kyiv.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as reported by Reuters.

“NATO intends to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position when serious negotiations begin, and what’s happening in Istanbul right now is not serious,” the Secretary General said.

Earlier, a journalist’s question to Rutte — asking why he believes Russia plans to attack the alliance within the next five years — put him on the spot. He did not give a direct answer to the question of why Russia would want to attack NATO. Instead, he stated that should such a scenario occur, Russia would face “devastating consequences.”
