03.07.2026 09:08Organizers of the NATO summit in Ankara plan to hold only one three-hour session so that U.S. President Donald Trump does not “get bored” during the meeting.
This was reported by Politico, citing sources.
According to the outlet, organizers will deliberately shorten the session time in order to keep the American leader focused on the issue of increasing defense spending.
The heads of the European Council and the European Commission — António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen — will take part in the summit. This was announced the day before by European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the country’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will also travel to Turkey for the event. On the sidelines of the summit, a Ukraine–NATO Council meeting will be held at the foreign minister level. According to Ukraine’s Ambassador to NATO Olena Hetmanchuk, Kyiv intends to secure decisions on new contributions under the PURL program and on the receipt of air defense systems.
The NATO summit will take place from July 7 to 8. This will be the second time such an event has been held in Turkey — the republic first hosted a North Atlantic Alliance summit in 2004 in Istanbul.
Earlier, Ankara announced its intention to earn millions of dollars from hosting the NATO summit.
