02.07.2026 07:08Polish President Karol Nawrocki has condemned the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s adoption of a bill to establish a national pantheon.
The corresponding statement was published by the Polish president’s office on the social network X.
The office described the move as “another stage of escalation on the part of the Ukrainian authorities” — following the decision taken at the end of May to name one of the military units after heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
“Such actions prove that President Nawrocki was right when he framed the issue precisely in that way — that is, when he announced he would strip President Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle, and ultimately did strip him of this highest Polish honor,” the office’s statement reads.
No specific names of those to be included in the national pantheon have been announced yet — they will be determined by a special commission. It is assumed that leaders of the OUN-UPA may also be included in the pantheon.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed bill No. 15360 on the establishment of a national pantheon the day before.
